Student Council: Rational Actor on St. Patrick’s Day
I’m proud of the ASM Student Council. Tonight, they voted to uphold their end of the bargain on an agreement reached by ASM and the Wisconsin Union related to the naming of the new Union building going up on the corner of Randall and Dayton. They will stay true to the decision of the New Union Naming Committee, a committee composed almost entirely of students, and put four choices on the ballot. Though I think Union South is a terrible name, I trust students to make the most logical choice going forward.
That being said, I strongly support Varsity Union as the name of the new building. In my opinion, it is a name which reaches back into the history of the UW and is at once reflective and prescriptive. The Wisconsin Union – and UW students – can thrive at the Varsity Union.
